Between Two Buns: New addition to the gourmet sandwich shops.

Between Two Buns: (A) 1271 Homer Street (N) 604- 336-4103

I know I’m so behind on post! You have no clue how good it feels to finally have some down time and do my most favourite thing, BLOGGING about food! Well, this eat was from sometime this weekend, went downtown with monkey boy, it was such a sunny day I just can’t let it go to waste, especially on my day off! I been hearing about this restaurant for some time now, mostly because the name is pretty catchy. But what caught my attention was the menu! About 7-8 items, all sounds so delicious it was pretty hard to pick.

  • Bottle Pop ($3): So funny how the bottle is 3 bucks and the can is 1.50 haha.
  • Strip’N ($11): AAA steak, red pepper and onion, crispy mushrooms w/ horseradish and blue cheese aioli. I really like this sandwich, a bit smaller than American Cheesesteak and maybe even Meat&Bread, not as good as them either. I was actually quite disappointed, I guess I just had high hopes or the menu really really attracted moi. However it wasn’t gross just I mean.. I didn’t sh*t myself cause it was just that good. Sorry for putting that image in your head now.
  • Jerk It ($9): I got the jerk it because she said that was def the most popular item. I didnt find myself drooling over this one either, I actually like monkey boys sandwich alot better. The chicken had a nice kick to it while the crispy yam topped it off. I guess for it was just too dry and not that much going on.
  • Poutine ($6): Now THIS is some amazing poutine. CRIPSY TO PERFECTION fries topped with housemade smoked gravy, quebec curds and ahh you named it, bacon. Lovely dish that I really much enjoyed and would come back here again just for the poutine. I am a HUGE poutine girl.
  • Salad of the day ($3): My salad was beyond refreshing and just what I needed to chill out all the messy ingredients I ate. It was a nice balance, I recommend everyone getting a lil salad. For $3 bucks it’s not that bad, considering all their sides are $3 bucks. I go for the salad.
  • Soup of the day ($3): I don’t know if this changes everyday or not but my tomato soup it was good, alas nothing too fancy.
  • Very new hip urban sandwich shop. I guess sandwich thing is huge in Van right now? Everything is brand spanking new. I love the whole design, they even got themselves iPad for as a Cashier. Love.
  • Love that they use fresh local ingredients when possible. I think the sign said organic too, not sure if it does state that or I’m making it up now. But if so cool!
  • The owners/employees are really nice!
  • Sandwich needs a bit work, I think they’re just lacking a lil taste. But I do see future in here! So I hope they top it off a notch the next time I drop by.

    1. Hmmmm…. So, did they put everything between… Oh, wait, wrong post! :P

As for the bottle of Coke, it might be a case of “it depends”. If it is just regular Coke in a bottle, it might be the co$t of nostalgia. However, if it is the one from Mexico, where Coke is made with sugar cane rather than HCFS… Well, then again, for god’s sake, it is a darn bottle of Coke!

      • Have you been here yet kim?!?! I want to hear your opinion. I mean I do think they are on the right track, just too many “gourmet sandwiches” around here… needs a lil more if they want to make it big you know what I mean.

        • I have not been there and, reality is, I am not that interested. In fact, I haven’t been to any of these new places, DD Mau, Between Two Buns, et al. In a way, since I have stopped blogging, my eating have been more “strategical”, i.e., since there is no pressure to find new places to eat, I explore the menu of previous places or cook at home. Or, in the “worst” case scenario, get two McDouble, remove one of the bottom bun, one of the bottom bun and make a four layer burger! :)
